Facts are over-rated!
Today I was unfriended by someone on FB… Apparently I offended him by suggesting we should listen to what people actually say, not what somebody thinks somebody might say. Oh well…

Apparently I offended him by suggesting we should listen to what people actually say, not what somebody thinks somebody might say.
Oh well…
If I am unfriended for wanting to discern truth from conjecture…
I can certainly live with that.
But it got me to thinkin’…
Got the old grey matter workin’ a little harder than usual.
I realized that discernment is what is lacking in business today.
Facts are inconvenient…
It is far simpler to believe what you want to believe…
Than to find the facts and take the appropriate action.
Sales are plummeting?
Much easier to believe it is because your competitors are discounting the crap out of their products…
Than it is to accept that nobody wants to buy what you are offering.
Your margins are collapsing?
Much easier to blame the greedy unions…
Than to accept that you have a layer of middle management wasting money on extended lunches and client dinners.
Advertising not working?
Much easier to blame lousy copywriters who don’t understand your product…
Than to accept you don’t know who your customer is.
So…just fire sales team…
Cut your shop staff….
Or…
Fire your advertising agency.
The business equivalent of unfriending me on FB.
And has about the same impact too.
On the other hand, successful businesses find the facts…
They base decisions on what is, not on what might be…
They don’t unfriend people who think that way…
They embrace them.
They dig deep…
They make the right changes.
The become successful.
If you are the type that unfriends people on FB because you don’t like what they say…
Then please, for the love of all things holy…
Don’t start a business…
And don’t call me about joining The Core.
We only work with people who seek the truth…
Make good decisions…
Understand their customers/clients…
And want to make a difference.
If that is not you…
Keep walking.
Nothing to see here.
