Bill Gates was Wrong about ChatGPT…

ChatGPT has caused quite a storm since its official release in November 2022. The AI chatbot has blown people’s minds with its ability to accurately answer questions on nearly all subjects and write poems, essays, and even music. Users have been in awe at how the AI can write and debug computer programming code too. ChatGPT’s arrival has truly signaled a new dawn. Tech giant Microsoft has given serious backing to OpenAI, the developers of ChatGPT, and it’s release prompted founder Bill Gates to state that it “will change our world.” Presumably, the tech mogul meant that ChatGPT and its successors will change our world for the better. The comment came after he told a German outlet that AI’s ability to read, write and understand content would help people a lot when it came to writing. But Gates hasn’t got this one totally right…One thing that the new AI won’t be able to help us humans do is with is write a decent book. As of now, ChatGPT and its contemporaries are simply not up to scratch when it comes to competing with a human author.Read on to learn about three (of the many) reasons why ChatGPT just can’t nail the elements of a great book like a human can.

3 Reasons Why ChatGPT Will Never Write Great Books

1. Great biographies are full of real human stories and emotion—ChatGPT doesn’t know what they are

ChatGPT would fail miserably if tasked to write somebody’s memoir. Remember, the AI is intended for you to ask it questions, not the other way around. So, how could it ever match the skill of a great ghostwriter? In addition, the bot will never relate to someone’s personal stories and emotions, not to mention craft them into colorful text.

2. Gripping fictions have relatable characters and entertaining dialogue—ChatGPT’s idea of good dialogue is sleep-inducing

ChatGPT has never known anyone, so how could it possibly create relatable characters worthy of an epic fiction novel? Meanwhile, its idea of “engaging dialogue” is rather grey and monotonous to say the least:

Character 1: Hey, how's it going?
Character 2: Not great. I just found out that my favorite coffee shop is closing down.
Character 1: No way! That's terrible news.
Character 2: I know, right? I've been going there every morning for years. It's like a part of my routine is disappearing.
Character 1: I hear you. But hey, why don't we go there one last time together? We can get our usual orders and reminisce.
Character 2: That's a great idea! Let's do it tomorrow morning.
Character 1: It's a date.

3. Great books are full of great ideas—ChatGPT has none

Whether fiction or non-fiction, every fantastic book has an overarching thesis or viewpoint on life or the wider world. When an author’s argument is original or innovative, it can take their work from good to great or even renowned. Programmed by its creators, ChatGPT will never have an original take and any prose it produces could well be full of the biases. Who wants their book to be filled with someone else’s ideas?
